Kaua‘i Fresh Fish was built on a simple belief: our communities deserve access to seafood that is fresh, honestly sourced and deeply connected to the people and waters that provide it.
Founder Cadena saw firsthand how often local fishermen were undervalued, unsupported and forced to compete against imported seafood that was mislabeled, lower quality and disconnected from Hawai‘i’s fishing traditions. She also saw the impact this had on local families, local economies and the health of the community itself.
Determined to create something different, she built Kaua‘i Fresh Fish to support a more transparent and sustainable future for seafood in Hawai‘i, one that honors fishermen, strengthens local communities and reconnects people to the true value of fresh, locally caught fish.
For us, this work is personal.
It is about supporting the fishermen who wake before sunrise, endure difficult conditions and continue traditions that have supported Hawai‘i communities for generations.
It is about creating healthier food choices, strengthening local economies and restoring trust in an industry where imported fish is too often mislabeled and disconnected from its source.
One of the most meaningful moments for us is watching someone taste truly fresh, locally caught fish for the first time and immediately recognize the difference.

Our Founder
Meet Cadena
As a woman in the fishing industry Cadena built Kaua‘i Fresh Fish through resilience, determination and a deep belief in community.
Growing up in the Northeast, the ocean was always connected to gathering and bringing people together. Living in Hawai‘i revealed both the beauty and challenges within the local seafood industry.
Through close relationships with fishermen, she saw firsthand the lack of support they faced and the growing pressure from imported seafood flooding the market.
Rather than accept the system as it was, she chose to help change it.
Today, Kaua‘i Fresh Fish advocates for transparency, sustainability and stronger support for local fishermen while helping consumers better understand where their seafood comes from and why it matters.
